A Schuylkill County man was riding on a DUI-related suspended license when he lost control of his motorcycle in downtown Pottsville and struck a parked Cadillac Escalade, breaking the bike into three pieces, police say.
Tyler Stuber, 24, of Middleport, was cited by Pottsville police following the crash, which happened around 4:30 p.m. on July 31 in the 300 block of S. Centre St.
Officers were dispatched for a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and arrived to find the motorcycle split into three pieces in the roadway and at least one person injured, police say.
Investigators determined Stuber was riding a black 2008 Suzuki GSX-R north in the 300 block when he accelerated and lost control, according to police. The acceleration caused him to collide with the driver’s side rear of a legally parked 2008 Cadillac Escalade on the east side of the street in front of The Chopping Block.
Stuber was ejected from the motorcycle and was able to walk away from the crash site, according to police.
The Escalade sustained minor damage to the driver side and a flat tire on the driver side rear, police say.
Pottsville Fire Dept. and Schuylkill EMS assisted at the scene. Firefighters handled fluids on the roadway and traffic control. EMS initially treated Stuber for a suspected serious right knee injury, but he later refused treatment, according to police.
Stuber told officers he did not have insurance on the motorcycle and believed his license was suspended. Officers checked his license status and confirmed the suspension was DUI-related.
Stuber also told officers the registration plate attached to the motorcycle was not the correct plate. He said he put the plate on himself from a collection he keeps at his residence to make it appear the motorcycle was registered until he could have the title transferred, according to police.
Police filed citations against Stuber for driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked (DUI-related), required financial responsibility, careless driving and fraudulent use of a registration plate.
