A Schuylkill County man was found guilty and ordered to pay several hundred dollars in fines for throwing a pizza at restaurant employees earlier this year.
Magisterial District Judge James Reiley determined that Douglas Huyett, 53, of Pottsville, was guilty of disorderly conduct at the conclusion of a short trial downtown this morning.
On the night of March 23, Huyett ordered two Pizza Hut pizzas online from the store’s location in Pottsville. He said during this morning’s trial that his wife went to pick them up and bring them home. But when the pizzas were at home, Huyett said there was something wrong with them.
“The pizza was burnt,” Huyett testified.
He said he called a customer service number and “an Indian guy” told him to take a picture of the pizza, return it to the restaurant, and they’ll make him a new one.
Pizza Hut employees who testified on Monday said Huyett initially said his “pizza was wrong” but they said “he got what he ordered.”
“The manager was rude and inconsiderate,” Huyett told the judge.
Not pleased with the response he got at the Pizza Hut, Huyett got angry and took the two open pizza boxes and whipped the pizza – which had clearly been partially eaten based on the video showed as evidence on Monday – at the three employees standing at the counter.
“He threw the pizzas at us,” one employee said.
Pieces of the pizza landed on the employees and they phoned police to respond to the unruly Huyett.
“You have no right to do what you did there,” Reiley told Huyett as he handed down his sentence, which included a $276.99 fine.
