A Schuylkill County woman is facing simple assault charges after Shenandoah Police say she forced her way into her son’s girlfriend’s home and struck her multiple times following an argument over comments made about her.
Marisol Barbosa-Colon, 36, of Shenandoah, is also charged with harassment and disorderly conduct, according to court records.
Police were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of South Jardin Street in Shenandoah around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 17, for a report of a domestic incident, according to police.
When officers arrived, they found the victim standing on the sidewalk with a visible bruise around her eye, police say. The victim told police that Barbosa-Colon, the mother of her boyfriend, had assaulted her following a verbal dispute between the victim and her boyfriend.
According to the victim, her boyfriend contacted Barbosa-Colon during the argument and told her about comments the victim had made about her. Barbosa-Colon then went to the victim’s home, entered and struck her multiple times, the victim told police.
Officers then made contact with Barbosa-Colon, who had returned to her own home nearby. She admitted to striking the victim, telling police she would not allow the victim to disrespect her in any way, according to police.
Barbosa-Colon is charged with simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor; harassment for subjecting another to physical contact, a summary offense; and disorderly conduct for engaging in fighting, also a summary offense, according to court records.
She was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker on July 17 and held at Schuylkill County Prison after failing to post bail, which was set at $10,000, court records show. A private surety posted $1,000 cash — 10% of the bail amount — to secure her release on Monday.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 30 at 10 a.m. before Judge Kilker, according to court records.
