Port Carbon will host its annual Fourth of July celebration on Saturday. It’s considered the longest-running Independence Day celebration in Schuylkill County.
The 2026 schedule features a morning 5K race, a parade, and an evening fireworks display. The celebration has been held annually since 1947.
Events begin at 8 a.m. with the Port Carbon Firecracker 5K Run/Walk. The route starts and finishes at the John L. Miller Memorial Playground and makes its way through the streets of Port Carbon and a portion of neighboring Palo Alto. Day-of-race registration will be available for runners and walkers.
The borough’s annual Fourth of July Parade will follow at 10 a.m. The parade route will feature local organizations, fire companies, veterans groups, businesses, and elected officials.
The procession will also include the Port Carbon July 4th Baby Parade, open to Schuylkill County children up to 12 years old. Participants can walk, ride bicycles, or use floats to match this year’s theme: “Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary.” Registration for the Baby Parade is ongoing.
Evening activities will take place at the Francis E. Lubinsky Playground, where MAGIC 105.5 will host a live remote broadcast from 7:30-9:30 p.m. The event concludes with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m., accompanied by a patriotic music broadcast on the station.
To fund the continued operation of the celebration, organizers are selling commemorative 2026 T-shirts and limited-edition challenge coins. The merchandise features historical sites in Port Carbon and marks the country’s 250th anniversary. Borough officials say quantities are limited and no additional inventory will be produced once sold out.
