Pottsville City Council members unanimously approved the hiring of Robert Straebel as the City’s new Administrator.
The 5-0 vote came at Monday’s regular council meeting at City Hall.
Straebel fills the top administrative position in City government, a job that’s been vacant since late-August.
Earlier this year, Pottsville employed the services of Templeton Advantage, for $17,000, to go on a head-hunting mission to find candidates for the City Administrator job.
On Monday, Solicitor Gretchen Sterns said Straebel, who lives in Norwegian Township, emerged from a field of 15 candidates, going through a series of interviews before getting the job.
Straebel will be paid a salary of $125,000 and is expected to start in no more than three weeks, according to Mayor Tom Smith.
After his appointment on Monday, Straebel said, “This is truly an exciting time, not only for me personally but for the City of Pottsville. It’s an honor to be back into the game and to be doing some great public service for the City of Pottsville.”
Straebel brings about 25 years of municipal management experience with him to Pottsville, where he said he relocated to be closer to family in the area.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Straebel has held similar positions (such as Town Manager, City Manager, and Village Administrator) dating back to 1998 in Hayden, Colorado; Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico; Charlevoix, Michigan; Petoskey, Michigan; and most recently in St. Michaels, Maryland.
