A Schuylkill County man is facing a felony charge after police say he stole an ice cream sandwich from a local convenience store.
Police in Shenandoah say they were called to the One Stop Shop shortly after noon on May 26 for a retail theft incident. At the store, police heard from the owner who said that Jeffey Huben, 35, of Ashland, had just stolen an ice cream sandwich, valued at $2.
The owner and a store worker reportedly told police this is far from the first time Huben has stolen from the store. In the past, he’s not pressed charges but the owner said he’s now sick of it.
Police say they reviewed security footage that shows Huben concealing the ice cream sandwich after it taking it from the store’s freezer. Huben was then spotted across the street from the store, at another store, and was taken into custody.
During a search, police say the located a clear blue plastic bag with suspected meth in it, a meth pipe, a “snorting pipe”, and a total of six Neurontin pills.
Police have charged Huben with a felony for the retail theft because they say, if convicted, it would be his fifth such offense, with previous incidents happening between 2008 and 2020. He’s also being charged with misdemeanor counts of receiving stolen property, and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
State Police also recently filed DUI-related charges against Huben for an incident in Norwegian Township back on May 9.
