Two Pottsville men face multiple charges, including reckless endangerment and highway racing, after police say they drove at high speeds along Mahantongo St. last week.
Jonathan Hernandez, 20, and Donivan Collazo, 19, were charged following traffic stops stemming from a noise complaint, police in Pottsville say. Hernandez also faces trespassing charges after allegedly hiding in a garage later that day.
At approximately 12:39 a.m. on May 29, police were dispatched to the 300 block of Mahantongo St. after 9-1-1 dispatchers received a report of two vehicles with extremely loud exhaust systems revving their engines. Police say this incident followed several other reports of speeding, aggressive driving, and loud exhausts along the street over the past few weeks.
Later, police say they saw a maroon Subaru Impreza, driven by Collazo, and a gray Infiniti, driven by Hernandez, traveling east on Mahantongo St. at a high rate of speed as they crossed 15th St.
Police initiated a traffic stop of the Infiniti in the 300 block of Mahantongo St., while the Subaru was located and stopped in the 1000 block.
Following an investigation, police charged Hernandez with a second-degree misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment. Hernandez is also charged with summary offenses, including three counts of racing on highways, 18 counts of duties at stop signs, drivers required to be licensed, reckless driving, careless driving, speeding, and registration required.
Collazo is charged with a second-degree misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment. He’s also facing summary offenses, including three counts of racing on highways, eight counts of duties at stop signs, two counts of driving on the right side of the roadway, two counts of period for requiring lighted lamps, reckless driving, careless driving, and speeding.
While following up on the investigation, police say they learned that a male, later identified as Hernandez, was hiding in a garage attached to the rear of a Mahantongo St. residence. The property owner told Hernandez to leave the garage, police say. Hernandez was then charged with third-degree misdemeanor counts of defiant trespass and loitering and prowling at night.

It’s not just at that end of the city. The loud exhausts are ridiculous and constant by twelve volt Daves. A loud stereo doesn’t even block it out.
