Suspect being held on $100K bail

A Schuylkill County man is accused of choking a woman and holding her at gunpoint during an incident on Monday.

According to court documents, police in Kline Township say they were called to a home on Center St. in Kelayres on Monday for a reported assault.

Police say they spoke withe alleged victim who says she was staying with Sherly Moody and her boyfriend, Lamont White. She reportedly said the couple had been continuallly harassing her about vehicle impound fees she supposedly owed them.

An argument broke out at about 1 p.m. Monday. During the argument, the victim told police that White grabbed her by the neck, choked her, and pushed her up against a wall. White then reportedly pointed a gun at her head and threatened to kill her.

This was not the first time White pointed the gun at the victim’s head, she told police.

As the argument was continuing, another person came up to the victim and allegedly punched her in the face.

The victim told police she tried to leave the home but when White and Moody heard the door unlock, they told her she couldn’t leave until she paid the money they believe she owed them. She said she was eventually allowed to leave because she told them she had an appointment.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police say.

Police say they received consent to search the home on Center St. Inside, police say they found a .22-caliber pistol where the victim said it was located. White’s wallet and ID along with a black bag containing marijuana were also found inside.

It was determined that the gun was reported stolen. White said the gun was in the home when he moved there.

White was arraigned Monday afternoon before District Magistrate Judge Edward Tarantelli and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and receiving stolen property, all felonies. He’s also been charged with strangulation, two counts of simple assault, making terroristic threates, false imprisonment, reckless endangerment, and marijuana possession, all misdemeanors.

Tarantelli set bail at $100,000 and White was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 9.
