A Schuylkill County man was jailed after he allegedly committed his ninth retail theft recently.
According to court documents, Jose Cabrera, 33, of the Willow Lake area of North Manheim Township, was arrested at Boscov’s at Fairlane Village Mall shortly after noon on June 8 for allegedly stealing two pieces of merchandise.
Boscov’s loss prevention employee reportedly told police that Cabrera walked around the store at the mall and pikced up a 47 brand Philadelphia Phillies hat and a portable speaker. Cabrera then put the items into a shopping cart and walked out of the store with the items without paying for them.
The store’s loss prevention employee said he approached Cabrera outside the store and had him come to their office.
An investigation revealed that Cabrera was allegedly told to not return to Boscov’s after a similar incident on March 18, 2019.
Police say this incident, if he’s guilty, would be Cabrera’s ninth retail theft offense.
Cabrera was arraigned that day before District Magistrate Judge Edward Tarantelli and charged with felony retail theft and a misdemeanor for defiant trespass.
Tarantelli set bail at $2,500, which hasn’t been posted. Cabrera is in Schuylkill County Prison awaiting a preliminary hearing before Judge David Plachko on June 17.
