Mateyak Fires Gem, Tamaqua Blanks Tri-Valley for Schuylkill League Baseball Title

Noah Mateyak threw a complete game masterpiece on Thursday to lead Tamaqua to a Schuylkill League Baseball championship over Tri-Valley, 4-0, at North Schuylkill Junior/Senior High School.

Mateyak went the distance and faced just two more than the minimum number of batters to earn the win on the mound. He finished with 7 strikeouts, while allowing just 1 walk and 2 hits on the afternoon.

Tri-Valley bats were puzzled down the stretch as Mateyak recorded the last six outs by strikeout.

At the plate, Tamaqua threatened early but struggled to get runs across the plate. For the game, the Blue Raiders left 9 runners on base but leadoff batter Mason Ligenza had no trouble finding his way home.

Ligenza went 1-for-1 with 3 walks and scored 3 runs to pace Tamaqua’s offense.

In the first inning, he scored on a Luke Kane sacrifice fly to center field after advancing to third base on a passed ball and then an expertly dropped bunt by Jake Yesner.

The Blue Raiders plated two more runs in the fourth inning. Once again, it was Kane pushing Ligenza across with a double to the left field fence. Kane later scored on a Cooper Ansbach single up the middle.

Ligenza added an insurance run in the sixth inning when he scored on an Ansbach single.
