Rite Aid is closing 47 of its stores, including 8 in Pennsylvania. However, none of the remaining Schuylkill County locations are among those closures, at least not yet..
These closure announcements come after the company said last week it’s once again entering Chapter 11 bankruptcy and that it will either close or sell off all of its remaining stores.
Of the eight Rite Aid stores in Pennsylvania that are closing, the closest to shut their doors are in Halifax in Dauphin County, Berwick in Columbia County, and Kutztown in Berks County.
As Rite Aid continues to look for buyers of its stores, the company said it will continue to operate the locations that remain open but it “is working to facilitate a smooth transfer of customer prescriptions to other pharmacies.”
The remaining Rite Aid stores in Schuylkill County are in Minersville, Frackville, Shenandoah, Tamaqua, Ashland, and Mahanoy City.
According to costar.com, the leases for these stores are for sale. However, beginning in June, another 1,000 locations are likely to be closed nationwide.
The two Rite AI’d stores in Pottsville were closed in September 2023 and May 2024. Both locations remain empty.
