A Pottsville man is in Schuylkill County Prison following an incident in Minersville on Monday.
According to court documents, police were dispatched to an active domestic dispute. When they arrived, they spoke to a woman who said the father of her child – Rayhiem Mitchell, of Pottsville – got agitated about something that happened at a doctor’s appointment and when they got home, he started hitting her repeated on the face.
Police say they observed signs of recent redness and swelling on the victim’s face. Mitchell, according to the victim, fled the area in her vehicle with their 1-year-old child. He also locked the doors to the victim’s apartment, locking her outside.
At the police station, contact was made with the landlord of the building, who agreed to allow the victim back inside. The landlord then called police and said Mitchell was at the apartment. As police went to that location they saw Mitchel operating the vehicle he’d taken. Police say he was taken into custody without incident.
Mitchell was arraigned Monday before District Magistrate Judge David Plachko and charged with simple assault and harassment. Plachko set bail at $25,000 cash and remanded Mitchell to Schuylkill County Prison.
