One of the four suspects in the armed robbery at Minersville General Store earlier this year, pled guilty on separate charges Friday morning in Schuylkill County Court.
Shynir Jeffcoat entered guilty pleas on charges that he possessed a 9mm handgun without a license and possessed amphetamines when he was stopped by police on April 9, 2023.
Jeffcoat, 23, agreed to plead guilty on these charges in exchange for a sentence of 2 years probation. Judge Chris Hobbs said he wouldn’t interfere with the sentencing agreement reached with the Schuylkill County District Attorney’s Office. He’ll also be forced to pay fines on these charges.
Hobbs warned Jeffcoat that violating the terms of his probation would land him back in court, at which time the judge would impose his own sentence. These charges combined carry a maximum sentence of 6 years in prison and a fine of $12,500.
This settlement doesn’t affect Jeffcoat’s status as a defendant in the armed robbery at Minersville General Store.
Jeffcoat was the last of four suspects to be apprehended in connection with that incident that happened on the night of Aug. 13.
Police say Jeffcoat and his associates – Za’ir Alvarez, 17, Adan Twigg, 20, and Edward Martinez, 18 – held up the Minersville General Store with BB guns and fled the store with merchandise and cash. Everyone but Jeffcoat was apprehended soon after the incident.
He eventually turned himself in on Nov. 19 and was arraigned before District Magistrate Judge David Plachko, who remanded him to Schuylkill County Prison on $50,000 cash bail. Jeffcoat posted bail a week later and was released.
A preliminary hearing on the armed robbery charges is scheduled for Jan. 28, 2025, before Plachko.
