Pierogi Bowl Set for February in Pottsville

Team pierogi eating contest

Pierogi Bowl – billed as The Ultimate Pierogi Eating Contest – is planned for February in Pottsville.

The event is being organized by Operating Engineers Upstate Club and is planned for Feb. 16, 2025, at The Crimson House on N. Centre St. in Pottsville.

Pierogi Bowl will have two-person teams squaring off in a pierogi eating contest. Doors for the event open at 11:30 a.m. that Sunday with eating scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

Door prizes, raffles, a 50/50 drawing are all planned, too. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to the winning teams. Proceeds from Pierogi Bowl benefit Dustin’s Adventureland.

The cost to enter is $40 per team. Registration for Pierogi Bowl must be done by Feb. 9 and can be done, starting now, by following this link.

Pierogi Bowl Rules

Here are the basic rules for Pierogi Bowl:

Teams will eat in waves of 3 from the start of Pierogi Bowl. A team will be presented an initial basket of 18 pierogies. Additional baskets will contain 6 pierogies.

There is a 4-minute time limit for teams to down as many pierogies as possible. An alarm will sound with 30 second left in each round. Contestants with an uneaten pierogi in their mouth when the 4 minutes is up will be docked 3 pierogies from their team’s total.

Ties will be broken by a special 30-second round of eating by one member of a team.

Cash prizes for Pierogi Bowl are $300 for first place, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place. Prize money is for the team, not individual competitors.

Deep-fried Mrs. T’s Classic Cheddar Pierogies will be served to all teams competing.
