A Schuylkill County man was sent to prison late last week after police caught him urinating in public. And apparently, this wasn’t his first time.
According to court records, Mahanoy City police were on routine patrol on Thursday, Sept. 19, near the area of 14th and Pine streets in the borough.
Police say they observed a red Ford Focus with its front driver side door open and a man standing between the door and car.
As police got closer, they recognized the man as David Roberts. They also saw Roberts standing on a fresh puddle of liquid.
Based on their history with Roberts, police say, they knew that fresh puddle of liquid was pee.
Police asked Roberts why he was peeing in public.
Roberts reportedly responded, saying “I didn’t want to pee my pants.”
According to the affidavit filed on Roberts in this case, “This is the fifth documented incident of Roberts relieving himself in a public setting, whether it be vomiting, urinating, or defecating.”
Roberts was arrested and arraigned before District Magistrate James Reiley at 1:45 a.m. on Sept. 19. Reiley remanded Roberts to Schuylkill County Prison on $10,000 bail.
Police have charged Roberts with misdemeanors of indecent exposure, open lewdness, and disorderly conduct.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled before District Magistrate Anthony Kilker on Sept. 26.
