A Schuylkill County man was sent to prison late last week after allegedly attacking the father of children who were attending virtual school.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Butler Twp. Police, Jacob Hinderliter, 19, of Butler Twp., attacked the father of children who were attending virtual school on Sept. 19.
At about 8 a.m. that day, police were dispatched to a home on Fountain St. for the report of an assault.
When police arrived, they were confronted by one of the children of the man attacked. Police were led to a man who said Hinderliter punched him in the face, ripped his shirt, and destroyed his phone.
Police say the victim of this assault had a nose that was swollen and bleeding profusely, a swollen right eye, and a ripped shirt that was covered in blood.
The victim said his children were attending virtual school but Hinderliter was being loud and disrupting them. He told Hinderliter to quiet down and go outside but was ignored. That led to a verbal argument that escalated.
The victim said he grabbed Hinderliter and started walking him to the door. That’s when Hinderliter allegedly started punching the victim in the face. During that attack, the victim’s shirt was ripped and his phone was broken.
Medical personnel treated the victim at the scene.
Hinderliter was arraigned that day before District Magistrate Edward Tarantelli. Police have charged him with second-degree misdemeanor simple assault and summary charges of harassment, disorderly conduct for fighting, and criminal mischief.
Tarantelli remanded Hinderliter to Schuylkill County Prison on $10,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 9.
