A pedestrian was struck and killed on Route 209 in Tamaqua on Monday morning.
According to Tamaqua Police Dept., the incident happened in the area of 1299 E. Broad St. (aka Route 209) at about 4:35 a.m.
Officers arrived on scene and discovered a man laying in the roadway and determined he was deceased.
The operator of the vehicle who allegedly struck the pedestrian remained on scene and police say was cooperative with their investigation.
An investigation into this incident is still ongoing. Pennsylvania State Police are assisting in the investigation.
Police have not released the identity of the pedestrian struck. They are working with the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office on an identification.
This incident closed Route 209 between Tamaqua and Coaldale for more than 2 hours Monday morning. The road was reopened at 7 a.m.
