Marian Catholic Grad Has Shot at US Olympic Swimming Team

Danny Berlitz, a 2019 graduate of Marian Catholic High School and a Drums native, is competing this week at the Team USA Olympic Trials for swimming in Indianapolis.

On Sunday, Berlitz qualified for the Finals in the 400m Individual Medley race but missed out on a chance to make Team USA for that event. He needed to finish in the top 2 to make the cut for the Paris Games but finished 8th in the Finals.

During the prelims of the 400IM, Berlitz’ time of 4:15.98 set a West Virginia University record. Berlitz just completed his senior season with the Mountaineers.

Berlitz’ next chance at making the Olympic team comes on Thursday when he competes in the Mens 200m IM event.

Qualifying begins at 11 a.m. and can be seen on Peacock. The Finals are set for 8 p.m., airing on NBC.
