Six homes were badly damaged by fire and smoke Sunday afternoon in Minersville.
The three-alarm fire broke out after noon on Sunday and drew a response from first responders across Schuylkill County.
An elderly man had to be pulled from a third-story window by a neighbor and was eventually brought down from the rooftops by firefighters as they arrived on the scene. (READ: DRAMATIC VIDEO: Neighbor Pulls Man from Burning Home in Minersville)
The extent of their injuries is unknown as of this post going live.
Strong wind gusts help move the fire from house to house on the 600 block of Second St. in the borough. The fire generated a very thick smoke that choked the air in the area near the scene, making it difficult to see and breathe downwind of the blaze.
It took more than 2 hours for firefighters to get the blaze under control as the fire was fought from the ground and multiple aerial ladder squads at the front and back of the homes.
Damaged in the fire were Second St. homes at 609, 611, 613, 615, 617, 619, and 629.
A cause of this fire is currently being investigated. A State Police Fire Marshal is on the scene to determine the cause.
Members of American Red Cross were also at the scene Sunday to assist those displaced from their homes.
