New Ringgold Woman Duped by Publishers Clearing House Scam

Not the first time this has happened.

A New Ringgold area woman is the latest in Schuylkill County to fall victim to the Publishers Clearing House scam.

According to State Police in Frackville, they were called late last month by an 88-year-old woman from E. Brunswick Twp. regarding payments she made to an unknown person.

Police say the woman was contacted by an unknown person claiming to represent Publishers Clearing House. The person allegedly told the woman she’d won a prize but in order to collect it, she had to pay the tax on it.

So, the woman did as the scammer said and purchased a pair of Green Dot pre-paid Visa cards for a total of $900.

After giving the scammer what they wanted from the cards, the New Ringgold never heard from the scammer again.
