Here are the candidates for the Republican and Democrat Municipal Primary Election in Schuylkill County in 2023.
The Municipal Primary Election will be held on May 16.
Schuylkill County Commissioners
A total of 10 candidates are seeking their party’s nomination during the Primary Election. The Democrats are putting up 2 candidates, so they’ll move on to the General Election.
On the Republican side, things are a bit more complicated. Eight candidates will be on the ballot for the May Primary. Only 2 of the 8 will emerge and move on to the General Election in November.
Here’s a look at the candidates for each party.
- Democrat: Gary Hess, Rita Anczarski Baldino
- Republican: Barron Boots Hetherington, George Halcovage, Maria Casey, Larry Padora, Jeffrey J. Dunkel, Mary Jo Moss, Ray Jones, Dan Evans
Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas Judge
Two candidates – Bill Burke and current District Attorney Mike O’Pake – have cross-filed for this role on the bench.
Schuylkill County Row Officers
Row offices at the Courthouse are up for grabs in 2023. All but 1 incumbent candidate is seeking re-election. Currently, every Row Officer is a Republican.
Maria Casey will not be seeking re-election as Clerk of Courts, spending just 1 term in that office.

- Controller: Sharyn Yackenchick (REP)
- Treasurer: Linda Yeich (REP), Joseph J. Post (DEM)
- Prothonotary: Bridget McGowan Miller (REP)
- Clerk of Courts: Crista DiCasimirro (REP), Jesseca Sickle (DEM)
- Register of Wills: Theresa Santai Gaffney (REP), Thomas C. McCabe (DEM)
- Recorder of Deeds: Ann Dudish (REP)
- Coroner: David J. Moylan (REP)
District Magistrate
Elections in 3 District Courts will be held in 2023. Each race has just one candidate and they’ve cross-filed as Republican and Democrat:
- 21-3-07: Jimmy Reiley
- 21-3-06: Stephen J. Bayer
- 21-3-03: Andrew AJ Serina
