A famous TV postman once said, “When you control the mail, you control … INFORMATION!”
And that’s exactly what one postal worker from Pottsville is accused of doing.
According to information from the US Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Johnathan Sherer, 29, of Pottsville, allegedly delayed delivering more than 3,000 pieces of mail.
Postal Worker from Pottsville Charged with Hoarding Mail
An investigation into Sherer’s alleged activity was led by the US Postal Service Office of Inspector General. Instead of delivering the mail, Sherer just held on to it.
This allegedly happened from 2019 through October 2020, US Attorney John C. Gurganus said in an announcement released Tuesday. During that time, Sherer worked as a postal employee.
If Sherer’s found guilty of obstruction of the mail, he faces up to 6 months in prison, possible supervised release, and a fine.
