UPDATE: Hazleton Officer Arrested in Connection with Kelayres Bombing
State Police are investigating an early Tuesday morning explosion in Kelayres, Kline Twp., as a suspected attempted homicide.
According to limited information from State Police in Frackville, they were dispatched to 3 Center St. in Kelayres a little before 5:30 a.m. for the report an explosion.
In the course of their investigation, police determined that an explosive device was detonated outside the front door at that address.
The blast injured 1 man and caused extensive damage to the home, police say. All the windows at a vacant church across the street were smashed during the explosion, too.
Police say the man injured in the explosion was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into this incident continues and police are asking anyone with information about it to call the Frackville barracks at 570-874-5300.
