Vera I. Kimmel, 100 – Loved Gardening, Sewing, and Quilting

Vera I. Kimmel, age 100, of Valley View, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on Friday, May 27, 1921, in Valley View, a daughter of the late Millard S. Schwalm and the late Irene M (Bixler) Schwalm.

She was a 1939 graduate of the former Hegins Twp. High School.

Vera was a seamstress in area garment factories prior to her retirement.

She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Valley View.

Vera loved gardening, sewing, quilting, making blankets and bags for those in need, and crocheting doilies, plus spending time with family, friends and those who cared for her.

Her husband Mark A Kimmel, passed away in 1977. She was also preceded in death by her parents; by an infant daughter Doris Kimmel; daughter Peggy J. Miller; and by a brother, Clair Schwalm.

She is survived by a son, Glenn M Kimmel and his wife Linda of Carlisle; a daughter, Carol A Shuey and her husband Leroy of Hegins; a son in law, Larry R Miller and his wife Patricia of Valley View; a sister, Dora Mae Wagner of Hegins; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Valley View, on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, with Rev. Suzanne Elliott, Rev. Duane Bardo, and Rev. David Wagner officiating.

Burial in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Valley View.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 221, Valley View, PA 17983.

Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.
