The coronavirus pandemic continues to drive people insane.
For the last week or so, we’ve seen people posting on social media actually wishful for “martial law” in the US.
Only, they spell it wrong. We’ve seen …
- Marshall law
- Marshull law
- Marital law
- Marshill law
Clearly, people are confusing “martial law” and “marshal law” and we blame the schools … for all of it.
Martial Law vs. Marshal Law
Wanting martial law? Perish that thought immediately!
No one should ever wish for martial law. This is America. We don’t do that. There are laws to prevent a military takeover of the government.
Here’s the difference between the two, presented glibly:

Martial law happens when government fails and the military takes over.
Marshal law kept the rustlers out of Dodge City, Kansas.
