A 38-year-old Schuylkill County man is dead after he charged at police on Saturday afternoon.
According to State Police at Schuylkill Haven, Adam Gamrak, of North Manheim Township, acted erratically when they arrived at his home on N. Greenview Rd., just outside Orwigsburg, at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Gamrak could be heard inside a garage when state troopers arrived on the scene. Police tried to call out for Gamrak. When they did, he charged at them. That’s when police realized the only thing he was wearing was a single sock.
Police told him to stop but he kept charging at them. It’s not clear from information available if Gamrak was armed in any way. State Police say they hit Gamrak with a “Taser”. That led to a “lengthy struggle” between Gamrak and police as the subject resisted arrest.
When police finally detained Gamrak and put him cuffs, he became “unresponsive and lost consciousness.”
Gamrak was transported to Geisinger-St. Luke’s Hospital in N. Manheim Twp. where he died.
Police, in their report, believe Gamrak was under the influence of a controlled substance. This investigation remains active as police await an autopsy and toxicology results from the Schuylkill County Coroner.
