A Schuylkill County man was jailed on assault charges after police say he admitted to punching his girlfriend in the face following an argument.
Tyler Michael Zimmerman, 31, of Saint Clair, is charged with one misdemeanor count of simple assault and one summary count of harassment. According to court records, Zimmerman was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison after failing to post 10% of $25,000 bail at his May 10 arraignment, and he remains incarcerated.
Police in Saint Clair say they were dispatched at about 11:30 a.m. on May 10, for a report of a domestic dispute in the area of Cherry St.
Police located the female victim walking in the 200 block of Cherry Street. According to the affidavit, police observed a fresh, one-inch laceration above the victim’s left eyebrow that was actively bleeding and appeared deep enough to require stitches.
The victim told police that about an hour earlier, she and Zimmerman got into an argument on her front step regarding him talking to other women. The victim told police that she kept yelling at and nagging him, at which point Zimmerman struck her in the face with his hand three times. She told police she was unsure if he used an open hand or a closed fist.
According to police, the victim refused emergency medical services, stating she would go to the hospital on her own. When police asked why she did not report the assault immediately, the victim stated she did not know what to do and was “covering up” for Zimmerman.
Police then went to a residence on Cherry St. and took Zimmerman into custody. After being placed in a patrol vehicle and read his rights, police say Zimmerman initially refused to talk but stated the victim “keeps nagging him to get him to snap.”
Upon arriving at the police station, police say Zimmerman openly stated that he punched the victim in the face to get her to stop harassing him.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 26 before Senior Magisterial District Judge Edward Lewis.
