A Schuylkill County man was jailed earlier this week following an incident outside a bar in the borough in which he allegedly pulled a knife on another man and chased him with it.
According to an affidavit, Minersville police arrived at a scene behind the Lame Goose Tavern shortly after midnight on Sunday Jan. 19. There, police say they heard from witnesses that Scott Frey, 25, of Minersville, had pulled a butterfly-style knife on another man and chased after him.
The incident began when the victim of this alleged attack intervened when he saw Frey yelling at a woman. The victim approached that yelling and asked the woman if she was OK.
Frey allegedly turned to the victim and said, “Yeah, you f***ed my girl.” It was at this point that Frey pulled out the folding knife and charged at the victim. The man ran away from the scene and Frey gave chase.
Police say when they arrived at this scene, the victim had a hammer in his hand.
Witnesses told police that Frey instigated the entire situation. The owner of Lame Goose Tavern also provided police with surveillance video that backed up what they’d been told of the incident, Frey chasing the victim.
Police say they also found a container that contained meth residue during a search of Frey after he’d been place in custody.
Frey was arraigned early Sunday morning before District Magistrate Judge James Reiley. Reiley set bail at 10% of $15,000 and remanded Frey to Schuylkill County Prison. Court records show bail has not been posted as of Thursday morning.
Police are charing Frey with a second-degree felony of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor charge of use of drug paraphernalia. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday before Judge Dave Plachko.
