Just a little more than a month after setting a date for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Girardville, it appears the event is not happening this year.
Back on Dec. 3, 2024, an announcement from the St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee set a date for this year’s event of March 22.
At Wednesday’s Borough Council meeting however, President Charlie Marquardt told The Canary that a verbal notice was given that the parade was going to be canceled. During the meeting, Marquardt told the public, “We haven’t received a formal letter. As it goes right now, the parade, as far as we’re concerned, isn’t happening.”
He added that if the Borough does receive a formal letter indicating otherwise, “we’ll go from there.” But as it stands, Marquardt said after Wednesday’s meeting, Girardville is working under the impression that the parade isn’t happening in 2025.
Marquardt said the Borough was supposed to meet with the parade’s organizing committee recently but that was canceled.
“They were supposed to give us a letter and that letter didn’t come,” he said. “So as it goes right now, the parade will not occur this year. That’s the decision of the parade committee.”
Attempts earlier this week to reach Joe Wayne of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee were unsuccessful.
