A 24-year-old Schuylkill Haven woman is dead and police are calling her death “definitely suspicious.”
Police in charge of the investigation are not revealing the woman’s name and only described her as a 24-year-old black female. The manner of death was not released to the media or public as of Monday night. They say the woman, based on an assessment of the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office, had been dead for about 48 hours prior to being discovered Monday.
An autopsy will likely be conducted by the Coroner’s Office on Tuesday.
According to Pennsylvania State Police Troop L Public Information Officer Ethan Brownback, “multiple interviews” have already been conducted as part of the investigation and search warrants have been executed.
Authorities believe this death to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public at this time. There are also no suspects at this stage in the investigation.
State Police Troop L Major Case is in charge of the investigation. They were requested at the scene by Schuylkill Haven Police Dept. earlier in the day.
At 2:30 p.m. Monday, Schuylkill Haven Police received a notification of a “non-attended death” at 20 Parkway in the borough.
Brownback says family of the victim asked a friend to do a welfare check on the victim. When the friend arrived at her home, he described the victim as non-responsive and dialed 9-1-1.
When police arrived and confirmed the victim to be non-responsive, the Coroner’s Office was contacted. As of 10:30 p.m., the Coroner’s Office was still on the scene as police continued their investigation.
Brownback said the victim was found on a stairway in her home and that the home appeared to be in “extreme disarray” when police arrived.
He added that the friend who did the welfare check on the victim on Monday is believed to be the last person to see the victim alive on Friday. Brownback said that that friend was with the victim on Friday and she was alive.
Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact State Police-Schuylkill Haven at 570-754-4600.
