A Pottsville man failed to appear at a preliminary hearing Monday to answer to charges that he stole food from a convenience store and later broke into a city home.
According to court documents, police were dispatched on the afternoon of Christmas Eve to the 7-11 store for a report of a man eating food and not paying for it.
The man – later identified as Scott Poslosky, 45 – reportedly told police that he was going to pay by using his phone but forgot his wallet. Police took Poslosky in custody and searched his person, finding candy wrappers in his pockets. They released him and gave him a trespassing notice, ordering him not to return to the 7-11.
Later that evening, police learned that Poslosky had come back to 7-11. When they arrived, they reportedly found Poslosky standing outside the store. As promised earlier that day, police arrested him and took him to City Hall. Police say Poslosky was sweating profusely and had pinpoint pupils in his eyes, a sign, they say, that he was under the influence of some form of drug.
Police say they asked him about his drug use that day and he allegedly said did an eight ball of meth. EMS personnel were notified and Poslosky was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-East in Pottsville for treatment. He was later released to the custody of hospital staff.
Then, shortly before 8 p.m. that same night, police learned from 9-1-1 dispatchers that Poslosky had walked into a home in the 600 block of E. Norwegian St. Police responded to that area and say they found Poslosky in the 500 block of that street. They once again took him into custody and took him to the hospital for an evaluation. Once he was cleared by nursing staff there, he was taken back to City Hall.
Police then interviewed the victim of Poslosky’s unwanted presence in their home. They said Poslosky walked inside and sat on the couch. This alarmed and scared the victim, who phoned 9-1-1, which prompted Poslosky to leave. Poslosky reportedly told police he entered that home because he believed he was being followed.
In connection with the events on Christmas Eve, Poslosky is charged with felony criminal trespass as well as seeral misdemeanors and a summary offense. He was to appear before District Magistrate Judge James Reiley on Monday afternoon but failed to appear.
