Pottsville Police Officer Tina Sullivan received a Letter of Commendation Monday night for her actions at a porch fire earlier this year.
Sullivan was the first first responder on the scene of the fire in the 600 block of N. 2nd St. When she arrived, Sullivan encountered a porch on fire at a home in the middle of a row on that block.
The fire could have easily spread to other porches and homes on that block. However, using a fire extinguisher from her police cruiser, Sullivan was able to start attacking the flames.
She directed the first arriving firefighters at the scene to begin evacuating residents of the adjoining homes. Sullivan’s work and quick reactions are credited with helping contain the flames until the first fire apparatus arrived to completely douse the flames and limit what could have been catastrophic damage.
Upon receiving her commendation on Monday, Sullivan said she’s happy to work alongside her fellow police officers and volunteer firefighters.
“I’m truly glad to be able to do what we do,” Sullivan said. “Thank you so much.”
