A New Jersey trucking company was recently cited for some disturbing violations on one of its vehicles unloading at the BRADS Landfill in Blythe Township.
Dangerous truck traffic is just one of many concerns neighbors of the Burma Rd. landfill have. Earlier this year, The Canary reported on other serious violations on vehicles bringing loads to BRADS, including a driver who wasn’t properly licensed and uninsured, faulty brakes, a flat tire, and a loose fuel tank.
In the latest such incident, shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 25, an officer with Pennsylvania State Police’s Motor Vehicle Enforcement unit flagged a truck at BRADS for concerning violations.
The truck in this incident is owned by Carly Trucking Corp., of Elizabeth, New Jersey. The truck was hauling a trailer, depositing a load at BRADS Landfill that morning.
According to citations filed later that day at the office of District Magistrate Dave Plachko, police cited the company for the following violations:
- Leaking wheel seal: The inner wheel seal on the left side of the truck was leaking oil, contaminating the brake shoe.
- Flat tire: The outer tire on the left side of axle 3 measured 44 PSI, which is less than half the maximum inflation level.
- Flat tire: The inner tire on the left side of axle 3 measured 12 PSI, which is less than half the maximum inflation level.
- Flat tire: The inner tire on the left side of axle 1 measured 54 PSI, which is less than half the maximum inflation level.
- No tail lights: This truck was operating in pre-dawn hours without functioning right and left tail lights.
- Defective brake warning device: The low air alarm for the brake system was inoperable.
- Brake system pressure loss: This truck was being operated while it was unable to maintain air brake system pressure and failed an air loss rate test.
- Brake connections with leaks under vehicle: The trailer’s right side front axle had a service brake hose leak.
- Brakes out of service: The number of defective brakes on this truck was at least 20% of all the service brakes on the vehicle.
Plachko’s office is still awaiting a plea from Carly Trucking on these alleged violations.
Later this month, the public will once again have an opportunity to voice their frustrations and concerns about BRADS Landfill, including what they believe is a dangerous stream of truck traffic moving to and from it.
The state’s Dept. of Environmental Protection has scheduled a Nov. 19 meeting with the public at Saint Clair Elementary/Middle School, from 6-9 p.m.
