Shenandoah Borough Council members voted unanimously on Monday to fire a full-time police officer.
The borough did not identify the officer by name and even in voting did council members indicate the employee they were firing was a police officer. Instead, the officer was simply identified as Employee 0135.
The Canary pressed to have officials at least identify Employee 0135 as a police officer but they would not release their name, even though Pottsville was just reminded last week that it’s reportedly a municipality’s obligation to release a terminated employee’s name.
In the vote to terminate this police officer, some Borough Council members paused slightly before rending their affirmative vote.
Shenandoah’s Solicitor Shane Hobbs said he’s not aware of any pending criminal investigation into the terminated officer. Hobbs said the general reason for the termination was for a “breach of the employment contract.”
With the officer’s firing, there are now 4 full-time and 4 part-time officers on Shenandoah’s police force.

Tightliped or swept under the rug, the skook way, just like what happened to the former Ashland Mayor who was a longtime cop; what the heck goes around here!! and 100 other examples, Shenandoah doesn’t have the best track record in covering stuff up; the last police force got shut down in 2009!!! It should be a public record. These are public workers!! What a shame to our citizens!
