A special blessing of a newly renovated dome at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Saint Clair took place on Saturday afternoon.
Fr. Kirill Zawatski, with the help of Saint Clair Fire Dept., was lifted up high in the air to bless the newly renovated dome on the ornate, historic church. Zawatski then blessed several first responder vehicles.
Afterward, a short service to offer a blessing to local first responders was held inside the church.
In his blessing, Zawatski honored the sacrifice that each first responder makes when they perform their duties.
“It’s makingi space in our hearts and in our lives for other people,” he said during the service. “That’s exactly what each and every one of you do when you sacrifice your time and your families and your lives to keep everyone safe and our community safe. And for that, we are forever grateful to each and every one of you. God bless you.”
St. Mary’s Orthodox Church was established in 1901 by immigrants from southeastern Poland.
