State Police are saying a “mental health situation” drew a heavy police presence to Mar Lin, Norwegian Township, on Sunday night.
Because of that, they’re not releasing any more details about the incident, according to Trooper Ethan Brownback, Troop L Community Services Officer.
What we do know is that at 9:45 p.m., fire police were summoned to Mar Lin, just outside Pottsville, to close off Fourth St. at Westwood Rd. and Maple Ave. for what was described by Schuylkill County emergency communications as a “police incident.”
Between then and 12:34 a.m. Monday, a stream of marked and unmarked police vehicles made their way toward a scene near the Honeywell facility. Incoming employees looking to start their overnight shift there were unaffected as they were allowed to enter into a lower lot at that location.
At about 12:10 a.m., a State Police Bearcat vehicle entered the restricted area and about 20 minutes later, police vehicles began exiting the scene.
A Schuylkill EMS ambulance that had been waiting on standby close to where the road was blocked to incoming traffic along Westwood Rd. left the scene. Fire Police eventually opened the roads into the village.
