The Minersville Railway Restoration Project 113 hosted its first-ever Community Day on Saturday.
A little bit of rain didn’t hold people back from being a part of history, either.
The organization’s historic CNJ 113 steam locomotive was the centerpiece of the event, held at Minersville’s train station.
CNJ 113 made six round-trip passenger treks to the St. Nicholas Breaker throughout the day. This was an historic event because it was the first time a passenger train departed Minersville in more than 90 years, according to the organization.
Reading & Northern Railroad supplied many of the passengers aboard those trips to the breaker. Reading Anthracite collaborated with the organization to get the steam locomotive onto its property.
Excursion trains leading to Minersville came from stops in Reading, Port Clinton, and Schuylkill Haven.
Back at the station, vendors and crafters were set up around the beautifully restored train station.
