A Minersville man is now facing a vandalism and related charges after he failed to pay for damages he allegedly inflicted around the borough.
According to court documents, Juells Becton, 18, was offered a chance to pay for damages he allegedly caused to borough property at the Minersville Area recreation complex back in December and to a resident’s truck.
The damages are estimated at $1,180.50.
However, police say Becton hasn’t made any payment on those damages and earlier this week, filed charges against him for misdemeanor institutional vandalism, illegal possession of a spray paint can, and criminal mischief.
Back in November, police received a report that someone had spray painted several buildings and signs at the Minersville recreation complex.
Video evidence, police say, showed two people spraying signs at the playground area there.
Police fielded help from the public in identifying the two people in the video. One of the, police add, was Judy Whitehead.
During an interview with police, Whitehead reportedly said Becton was the one who had done the spray painting.
Police say some of the pictures on the walls near the swimming pool building at the recreation complex match those on some of Becton’s clothing and that he had painted his clothing with those images.
Becton reportedly admitted to the vandalism during a police interview. That’s when police offered to allow him to pay for the damages, to have the graffiti removed from there and from a truck he allegedly painted.
