State Police say the cause of an early-morning two-alarm fire at a barn owned by Leiby’s Dairy Inc. remains under investigation.
The barn was primarily used for storage and wastewater treatment equipment.
According to police, fire broke out at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday at 116 Mountain Road, Walker Township. That’s when New England Fire Co. and other units were summoned to the scene.
Police say a newspaper delivery driver saw smoke coming from one of the buildings and called 9-1-1.
More manpower and water tankers were needed to extinguish the flames. Water access, police say, was a significant challenge. It had to be trucked to the scene from a pond on the farm.
Before the fire could be extinguished, the barn collapsed. Police say heavy equipment was needed to move debris and find pockets of fire.
Damage caused by the fire is estimated at more than $1 million and the building is a total loss, investigators say.
A State Police Fire Marshal continues an investigation into a cause of the fire.
