Sheetz is planning to build a third location in Schuylkill County and its plan just got one step closer to reality.
At its Dec. 13 meeting, the Schuylkill County Planning Commission sent its comments on a final land development plan for a Sheetz location in Pine Grove Township, just off Interstate 81, back to that municipality’s Planning Commission.
According to documents from the County’s Planning Commission, the proposed Sheetz store would go at 397 Suedberg Rd. (Route 443) and requires the annexation of two properties in Pine Grove Twp. This Sheetz would border the rear of the Swatara Village retirement community. It’ll be situated across the highway and slightly east of the Arby’s location along Route 443, just off the interstate.
One of the two properties to be annexed is currently a vacant lot. The other contains a vacant building alongside Route 443 that was once the home of Ulsh’s Restaurant in the 1990s.
A Land Development Plan was sent to the Planning Commission by Pine Grove Twp. on behalf of Sheetz Inc. and Fanelli Group Properties LLC, which owns both of the parcels to be annexed.
It is the job of the County’s Planning Commission to offer comments on the plans it received from the township. Those notes were endorsed by the Planning Commission last week.
In them, Schuylkill Planning Commission recommends, among other notes, Pine Grove Twp. officials “discuss and encourage” having Sheetz install Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at this proposed Pine Grove location.
The Planning Commission says the state has identified the Pine Grove I-81 interchange as a high-priority area for installing EV stations.
This proposed Sheetz and the fate of the project is now back in the hands of Pine Grove Township officials, first going back to its Planning Commission before potentially heading to Township supervisors for final approval before any work is done on those lots.
If the plan is eventually approved, this store would be the third Sheetz to open in Schuylkill County. Sheetz operates stores in Pottsville and North Manheim Twp., just outside of Schuylkill Haven.
A Pine Grove Township official was not immediately available for comment. No timeline for this project is included in County documents.

Silly Sheetz B***ards! They claim there wasn’t enough traffic to build a store at Hi-Ridge at exit 119,but at Exit 100 there is. I smell politics. I love Sheetz, although there are better chains: Rutter’s, company up in Allenwood, whose name escapes me(out of Clearfield)imho

Electric car charging stations are not going to be welcome there. People will probably park in the way of them.
