Meuser Enters Race for Speaker of the House

Could Schuylkll County’s representative be the next Speaker?

US Rep. Dan Meuser (PA-9), who represents Schuylkill County in Congress, has declared his candidacy to be the next Speaker of the House.

US Rep. Dan Meuser (PA-9), who represents Schuylkill County in Congress, has entered the race to become the next Speaker of the House.

Additionally, Meuser said Sunday that he’ll support whatever Speaker candidate the House Republican Conference chooses next. This “Unity Pledge” he signed on Sunday indicates he’ll vote on the House floor in favor of the next Speaker candidate.

I pledge to support the Speaker Designate duly elected by the House Republican Conference — regardless of who that candidate is — when their election proceeds to the House Floor,” Meuser wrote in a message on X.

House Republicans have been struggling to find the next Speaker of the House after Rep. Kevin McKarthy was ousted. Reps. Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan were briefly candidates for Speaker but votes for them never made it to the House floor due to a lack of party-wide support.

Meuser supported all three.

Now, he writes, “It’s time to put politics and personalities aside and unite behind the next Republican Conference choice for Speaker. Let’s get back to work on behalf of the American people.”

Here are the 8 other candidates seeking the Speaker of the House job:

  • Majority Whip Tom Emmer, Minnesota
  • Jack Bergman, Michigan
  • Byron Donalds, Florida
  • Austin Scott, Georgia
  • Pete Sessions, Texas
  • Mike Johnson, Louisiana
  • Kevin Hern, Oklahoma
  • Gary Palmer, Alabama
