2 Dead in Crash on Route 183 in Schuylkill County Monday

Crash closed Route 183 most of the afternoon

Two people died in a vehicle crash along Route 183 in Schuylkill County on Monday afternoon.

According to information released by State Police in Schuylkill Haven, the crash happened at about 2:30 p.m. in Wayne Township, on Route 183 near Meadowbrook Drive.

Police say 2 women from New Philadelphia were killed in the crash.

During the incident, a vehicle driven by 39-year-old Carolynn Drum was headed north on Route 183 at the same time a tractor-trailer driven by Paul Laudenslager, 46, of Easton, was traveling southbound.

Drum’s vehicle crossed over the center of the highway and struck the “10 o’clock portion” of the trailer of Laudenslager’s vehicle.

Drum and one of her passengers, 18-year-old Maria Ensinger, of New Philadelphia, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Another passenger in Drum’s vehicle, 19-year-old Adam Pontry, of Wapwallopen, sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Reading Hospital for treatment.

Laudenslager was uninjured in the crash.
