Famed Pottsville Grilled Cheese Spot Rebrands as Tres, City’s Only Taco Restaurant

tres taco restaurant in pottsville holds grand opening ceremony

It’s a bold strategy. If you own a popular restaurant in Schuylkill County, not many would risk all its success and totally transform it into a new concept.

But that’s just what serial entrepreneur and the owner of Wheel, Savas Logothetides, did on Friday afternoon when he cut the ribbon to officially open Tres, a new tacos, tapas, and tequila spot in downtown Pottsville.

Before he cut the ribbon, Logothetides recounted the journey that led him and his staff to that point. He talked about how this decision – which struck so many by surprise when he announced it last year – may seem out there to some, but it’s on par with his other business decisions in Pottsville.

Logothetides said before a crowd of fellow business owners, members of Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, and some elected officials, “When we opened Wheel, everyone said, ‘Man, you’re crazy. You’re going to transition Wheel to tacos? You’re crazy.’ Have you guys seen Facebook for the last 3 months? It’s been a wild ride.”

In mentioning Facebook, Logothetides is referencing some of the wild blowback he received ever since announcing that he’s rebranding Wheel, which as at one time in its relatively short existence downtown was named one of the top diners in America.

However, during the time Wheel operated in Pottsville, Logothetides was able to leverage its viral success and open a second location, in Tamaqua, that’ll remain open.

So, with Wheel in Tamaqua, an opportunity presented itself for a change in the city. To the best of our knowledge, Tres, as it’s now officially known, is Pottsville’s only taco restaurant.

“It’s so exciting for me … and I’m so excited to introduce Tres to downtown Pottsville,” Logothetides said.
