The revitalized Tamaqua train station will get its own official USPS stamp in 2023.
The Postal Service unveiled its collection of unique statmps for the new year on Monday. And among them is a collection of stamps honoring the nation’s railroad industry through its depots across the country.
Other rail stations included in the 2023 stamp collection are in:
Cincinnati, Ohio
Point of Rocks, Maryland
Richmond, Virginia
San Bernardino, California
Derry Noyes was art director on the train station stamps. And USPS says, Down the Street Designs did the digital illustrations and typography on the collection.
The Postal Service says, “Noteworthy railroad stations began brightening the American landscape by the 1870s and, although many were torn down once they had outlived their original purpose, hundreds survived.”
Stations part of the stamp collection were chosen because each plays a role in its community today.
The Tamaqua train station revitalization has been decades in the making and it now serves host to a restaurant as well as a functioning station for train excursions to and from the borough.
“The 2023 stamp program features a broad range of subjects and designs. These miniature works of art highlight our unique American culture and offer a broad selection for those looking to collect stamps or send their mail around the nation or the world,” USPS Stamp Services Director William Gicker says.
