The Christmas tree in Pottsville was toppled on Tuesday night when someone crashed their vehicle into it.
The crash was reported a little after 9:30 Tuesday night in Garfield Square. Pottsville’s Christmas tree is placed at the west end of the roundabout in the square and is usually surrounded by wood sawhorse barricades painted like candy canes..
A tree lighting ceremony was held just this past Saturday night.
An eyewitness to the crash tells The Canary the vehicle simply went head-on into the tree and then it’s back end shifted to the right. He describes a “really loud” bang when the car crashed.
The impact of the crash knocked the tree down.
Several people were taken away to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries.
The vehicle sustained severe damage to its front end on the driver’s side.

The 2021 Pottsville Christmas tree was officially lit for the first time on Saturday night.
