A Minersville man died Saturday night in a motorcycle crash along Route 61.
According to State Police in Frackville, the crash happened just after 11 p.m. in Blythe Township, where Route 61 is known as Skyline Drive.
Police say Michael G. Smith, 47, died when his motorcycle crashed into a guide rail on the side of the road. Smith was reportedly driving too fast and he lost control of his bike. The left side of his bike hit the ground and skidded in a northeast direction. Eventually, it struck a guide rail on the east side of the highway.
The front tire of the motorcycle fell off and it and the bike went in opposite directions.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
State Police were assisted at the scene by Saint Clair PD, Saint Clair Fire Dept., Schuylkill EMS, and Shenandoah EMS.
