Developing story …
Emergency crews from Pottsville and surrounding communities needed about 90 minutes to contain a blaze at a home in the neighborhood of the John S. Clarke Elementary School Friday afternoon.
The fire was officially declared under control at 1:20 p.m. However, extensive damage to homes at 14-16 Villa Rd in Pottsville have left at least 7 people without a place to stay today.
Calls went out for help at about noon Friday for a home along York Farm Rd., which is actually at the end of Villa St.
The heaviest damage was sustained on 16 Villa St., especially in the rear of the building.
No word at this time on a cause of the fire. Everyone believed to be inside the homes at the time was safely removed.
