A former Pottsville man was arrested Friday and charged with murdering his 3-month-old son.
According to Berks County Sheriff Eric Weaknecht, his office along with the US Marshal Task Force took 22-year-old Cordell Thomas into custody in Reading. Thomas was apprehended in the 300 block of Pine St. in Reading.
Pottsville PD filed a third-degree murder charge and other charges against Thomas for the October death of his 3-month-old son, Mateo. The baby died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.
The incident which led to the infant’s death happened in late-September.

Thomas, who court records show was living in Reading at the time of his arrest Friday, is now in Schuylkill County Prison without bail and charged with the following:
- 3rd degree murder
- Involuntary manslaughter
- Aggravated assault
- Simple assault
- Reckless endangerment
- Endangering the welfare of children
