Locals With Interests in Ocean City Maryland Need to Watch Hurricane Dorian Forecast

You are or likely know someone who has a campsite or other piece of property in or near Ocean City, Maryland. So the latest updates on Hurricane Dorian may cause you to literally batten down the hatches.

National Weather Service issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Ocean City, Maryland on Wednesday. The Watch expires on Thursday morning at 4 a.m. Hurricane Dorian could unleash Tropical Storm-force winds on Ocean City, Maryland, between Friday morning and Friday evening, according to NWS.

Right now, NWS says the threat of damaging winds is minimal. But property owners, those who have camp sites near the beach, should begin tending to their properties right away.

Forecasters say the potential for wind damage in Ocean City, Maryland, right now, is limited.

Here’s what could happen, they say:

  • Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored
    mobile homes.
  • Unsecured lightweight objects blown about.
  • Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or
    uprooted, especially if soils are saturated. Some roadway
    signs will sustain damage.
  • A few roads will be impassable from debris. Hazardous
    driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways.
  • Scattered power and communications outages.

Here’s a look at the 8 p.m. cone map from the National Hurricane Center. You can see the area just below Ocean City, Maryland, is in a Tropical Storm Warning right now. At most, Ocean City could see a glancing blow from the outer bands of Hurricane Dorian.

In the latest update, NWS says the threat of wind impacts at Ocean City, Maryland are greater than in previous forecasts.

Right now, there is little threat of Storm Surge or Flooding expected from Dorian.

Flood prone areas could see some impact from the storm. It’s expected to drop between 1-3 inches of rain over Ocean City. Here’s more from the NWS advisory this evening:
