A Schuylkill County man is facing new charges after he allegedly showed up at City Hall to meet with police with a bag of meth in his pocket.
Officer Kyle Kaledas says he was called to City Hall on Oct. 12 because 56-year-old Clarence Eckert was there to talk to him. Eckert reportedly was told by a friend to go to City Hall to speak with police.
Kaledas says he was familiar with Eckert through prior encounters and knew there was an active bench warrant for his arrest. He confirmed that with Schuylkill County dispatchers and took Eckert into custody without incident.
During a search after being taken into custody, Eckert reportedly told Kaledas that there might be a small bag of meth in his gym shorts pocket. Kaledas says there, indeed, was a small bag of meth in Eckert’s pocket.
Eckert was charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia in relation to the incident last month at City Hall. He is also facing DUI and driving on a suspended license charges in Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas related to an alleged incident in January.
